B-Day+158: Slumming it

Here’s a glimpse into how we live at the moment – most rooms are in absolute chaos, and we still don’t have a boiler (thank god for electric heaters)!

This is our “kitchen”, notice the convenient bicycle parking facilities and the space saving sofa arrangement:

On a positive note, the electricians came back today to do more electrical first fix in the old kitchen.  And the steel beams were concealed with a frame around the opening.

And more plastering to come over the next few days, so hopefully things should look significantly improved by the end of the week!

B-Day+156: A lot more plaster

Wow, our solitary plasterer was replaced by a plasterer plus assistant/son. This double act made a good deal of progress today, plastering most of the main extension and ceiling – a good day’s work!

Here’s a wibbly-wobbly distorted photo of their handywork (with a missing patch of photo in the corner).

B-Day+152: Some plaster

The downstairs WC/shower and utility room are now both roughly plastered – awaiting the top finish.

Here is a fascinating picture of some plaster (framed prints available on request):

B-Day+151: Break on through (to the other side)

Today was a good day. The old and the new have finally met, as the boards at the end of the old kitchen were removed. Everything feels so much lighter and more spacious (obviously).

Our plasterer arrived and plastered the WC / shower room, and will move on to the utility area next…

B-Day+150: Patio doors and no-show plasterer

After a couple of weeks of frustrating inactivity we got excited today at the prospect of the plastering starting.  Unfortunately the plasterer decided he had something better to do than plastering, so we are still left with brick and blockwork walls.  We are promised a more reliable plasterer will be with us bright and early tomorrow morning – we’ll see…

On the plus side, the patio doors were installed today, so we are now watertight!

Here I am testing the new patio doors.  They passed my test.

B-Day+136: Ceiling the deal

The ceiling of the flat roof is now done, and the internal wall to the utility area was put in – meaning we have a long walk to get round to the extension!

B-Day+133: Windows

After sitting around for a couple of weeks the windows have been installed – one day soon the extension will officially become 100% indoors, just need patio doors and back door…

B-Day+131: steeled

Look, no kitchen units!  And look again, the opening is wider! And look again, the opening is taller!

What’s the reason for all this?  The steel beams are now in place, so no more props for the bathroom!
